Breaking an addiction to methadone can be an uphill battle. Often people are taking methadone as a treatment for something else that they were addicted to, thus replacing one addiction with another. If a methadone user is not careful they can end up taking this powerful drug for years, even decades.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse has published a list of 14 services that addiction treatment centers should offer. According to research, these services are things that keep addicts from quitting rehab before they’re finished and improve outcome success rates.
