Breaking an addiction to methadone can be an uphill battle. Often people are taking methadone as a treatment for something else that they were addicted to, thus replacing one addiction with another. If a methadone user is not careful they can end up taking this powerful drug for years, even decades.
Detox centers are usually the first stop on the path to addiction recovery. A detox center is where an addict goes for the first few days after they stop consuming alcohol or drugs. Withdrawal from these substances can make an addict ill and be very painful. Detox can be dangerous and even life-threatening, so it should always be done under medical supervision.
